Chad Ochocinco to pay 1 millionth Twitter follower
If you guys don’t know who Chad Ochocinco is already, I’m sure if you’re interested in social media or making money – you will know the man now.
The Cincinnati Bengals star is a man on a mission. Back when he was still Chad Johnson, you probably would only know him as a football player. The only commercials I can even recall him on were the Go Daddy commercials a few years back:
Once Chad legally changed his last name to “Ochocinco,” he has been on a path of personal branding. You can see him on his UStream channel, “The Ocho Cinco Show,” or you can catch him on the hit ABC show, “Dancing With the Stars.”
That is not all, though. What many may see as his largest sounding-off board is his Twitter account. Check out @OGochocinco on Twitter and prepare to be entertained. The best part about the celebrity of Ochocinco is the fact that he embraces it so openly. In fact, he is looking to make somebody a little wealthier if they are his 1 millionth follower today. Here is his announcement on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this morning:
That’s right! The Ocho is prepared to shell out $10K to his 1 millionth follower if that number is reached today. At last count, it looked like he was a bit over 892,000 followers. It seems a bit out-of-reach if he’s hoping to get that number by tonight’s airing of “DWTS,” but crazier things have happened when money is involved.
Just letting everyone out there know; if that number does get close, I’m going to re-enter my @rlytle twitter handle into the sweepstakes!
The new YouTube sensation: Greyson Michael Chance
It seems as though we see this almost every day now.
YouTube has become this century’s American dream. Post a few low-budget videos highlighting your God-given talents on the Internet and watch your celebrity grow. Last year it was Justin Bieber, who has found great success and a bevy of over-protective female fans. He started his “career” by posting covers on his YouTube account, which were eventually spotted by Usher – and the rest is history.
This year, it seems YouTube has unearthed the next tween superstar. His name is Greyson Michael Chance, a 12-year-old sixth grader from Oklahoma. His cover of Lady Gaga’s ‘Paparazzi,” (posted above) tore through the the site with reckless abandon. His video garnered so much attention that Ellen Degeneres brought him on her show for a live performance.
I think we have come upon the new generation of discovering musical talent. Step over Myspace, YouTube commands the music industry now! Any child with a dream of winning a Grammy need not do more than have access to a video camera and an Internet connection.
It is interesting, though, how our culture will hype almost anything in our society. One video and this kid is a superstar. Just read this article from People Magazine discussing the next “big” thing.
Although I’m envious as hell that my vocal abilities are no match for Greyson’s, it’s a thrill to see sites like YouTube making a little kid’s dream come true.
Are those the Reds stomping those Pirates?
So I’m usually not one to take a lot of my time to talk about sports on my blogs, but I have to give credit where credit is due.
Here is an article from USA Today talking about the red-hot Reds:
“Don’t look now, but the Cincinnati Reds have pulled to within 1 1/2 games of first place in the NL Central. And they’re doing it with pitching as they look ahead to a three-game weekend series against the first-place Cardinals. Homer Bailey followed Johnny Cueto’s one-hitter with a four-hit shutout Wednesday afternoon, helping the Reds defeat the Pirates 5-0 for their fifth win in a row. It’s the first time Reds pitchers have tossed consecutive complete-game shutouts since Jose Rijo and Tom Browning did it at Dodger Stadium in 1989.”
Also, according to Lance McAlister from 700 WLW, the last time the Reds had back-to-back complete game shutouts without a walk from either pitcher was in 1925!
Maybe this is finally the year the Reds take advantage of the young talent they have been grooming in their farm system for years. Maybe this is finally the year the Reds make it through the playoff drought for the first time in 15 years. Maybe this is finally the year the Reds can make it to the World Series for the first time in 20 years.
Maybe, just maybe.
Here it is, at last! RyanLytle.com
This seems like the culmination of a dream. I finally have my own domain; my own site, represented by my likeness. Welcome to RyanLytle.com, my own little piece of the Internet. Please, feel free to browse the sections highlighting the work I have done in the field of journalism thus far.
When I first decided to go into the field of Online Journalism, I had no idea where that path would take me. Well, after three fantastic internships and a great four years at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, I have to say I am excited for the opportunities that await me. Although the path from here may be hazy, I hope to have a long, successful career in this field.
It is my hope that you will return to this page to see my recent musings or to stay up to date with my journeys through the field. It’s going to be a fun ride.
