Personal Branding: What Does That Mean?

I have had a great year when it comes to building my personal brand, and I have had the great honor of giving the keynote address at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism‘s Senior Saturday at Ohio University. I’m hard at work at the presentation, but I wanted to give you guys a sneak peak of the opening slide to get your feedback. What do you think? Remember, the more critiques or criticisms I get, the better this entire presentation will be.

Also, I have a ton of notes that I will be sharing but if you have any personal branding tips or advice you think I should definitely include, make sure to let me know. This is a huge topic right now so I want to make sure my presentation capitalizes on everything.

  1. Hey Ryan,

The slide looks great. Definitely an interesting topic that I don’t think a lot of students understand.

I hope you explain how personal brands are changing how organizations hire and manage employees.

Good luck and look forward to seeing you in NYC.

    Best,
    Ryan

  3. Thanks, Ryan! I really appreciate the feedback and definitely looking forward to meeting up in a couple weeks. Happy Holidays!

  4. As an OU graduate of many years ago I tend to co-mingle thinking about the OU brand and my own personal statement of brand.

An OU graduate will want to say something about helping other people be successful, I would think.

Helping students be successful is what OU is all about.

If OU graduates don’t wish to make that statement, I would assume they are not planning for a leadership position in their work or community.

People helping other people be successful is just cool, IMO!

  5. Thanks for the input Gary. I speak for at least for the J-School when I say that most OU students would agree with what you have said. I think the Bobcat network is one of the strongest in the country – though I don’t have experience with any other college network!
