TBS: Conan deserves Emmy
It seems after all this time, Conan O’Brien has found a network that supports him.
TBS launched an Emmy campaign Wednesday to support their new talent for the work he did on NBC’s “The Tonight Show.”
The Turner company ran two different “For Your Consideration” ads in Variety. The first (as posted here) said: “Give this man one more thing to tweet about.” Conan has been a force on Twitter, recently passing one million followers on the social networking site. The other, my favorite, says O’Brien should be considered for “outstanding achievement in the use of SPF 150.” Both ads are signed, “From your friends at TBS.” I love it!
TBS exec Steve Koonin said in a statement that they are happy to support O’Brien even though his work was for a different network: “Conan’s great work in 2009 and 2010 deserves Emmy consideration. We’re very excited to have him join TBS later this year.” O’Brien will begin his Monday-Thursday late-night talk show on TBS in November.
What the best part of this entire situation is that the Emmy Awards are being broadcast by NBC. Could you imagine if O’Brien accepts an Emmy for his 9-month stint on “The Tonight Show” on the network that basically threw him away. How do you think that acceptance speech would go? If it’s anything like his statement about joining TBS, it will be amazing: “In three months I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I’m headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly.”
